Abstract

The purpose of this study is to characterize the resulting interface between bone/implant through electron microscopic analysis and evaluate the nano-osseointegration response by functionalization with Rubus coreanus in implants installed in rats submitted to ovariectomy. Sixty-four young adults female Wistar rats were used. Experimental groups are SHAM CONV, SHAM DMSO, SHAM RC 200, SHAM RC 400, OVX CONV, OVX DMSO, OVX RC 200, AND OVX RC 400. OVX animals were submitted to bilateral ovariectomy, while SHAM animals had sham surgery. 30 days after the ovariectomy and sham surgery, all animals were submitted to implant installation in the proximal tibia metaphysis. Implant's surface was functionalized with different concentrations of Rubus coreanus; the negative control group (SHAM CONV and OXV CONV) had implants with a conventional surface, and the positive control group (SHAM DMSO and OVX DMSO) was functionalized with DMSO (vehicle). Animal's euthanasia occurred 28 days after the implant's installation. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam microscopy (FIB) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are going to be performed. Qualitative and quantitative data are going to be evaluated after obtaining the results. (AU)
