Abstract

Human saliva is a biological fluid that presents potential biomarkers that can be used for diagnosis. Saliva can be collected in a non-invasive, easily accessible and repeatable manner, which makes it an attractive source of potential biomarkers. Performing salivary biochemical analysis in irreversible pulpitis will allow the investigation of chemical alterations that occur in this process, contributing to diagnostic and prognostic purposes. The present study aims to analyze whether irreversible pulpitis is capable of inducing alterations in the concentration of salivary amylase, total protein, calcium and phosphorus. Samples will be collected from 32 patients who have been referred for dental care at the Araçatuba School of Dentistry FOA-UNESP. Patients with indication for orthodontic extraction and third molars and patients diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis will be included. A statistical analysis of the results will be performed. The normality and homogeneity of the data will be analyzed and subjected to the most appropriate parametric or nonparametric test. For all tests, it will be set at 5% (p < 0.05).
