Abstract

Liensinine is an alkaloid belonging to the isoquinoline class, obtained fromNelumbo Nucifera Gaertn seed. This substance is extensiveconsumed in Asian countries and with reports of several positive impacts onhealth. Liensinin has recently been studied due to itsanti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties. However, theThe impact of liensinin on mitochondrial metabolism is not yet known. Therefore, the objective of the current project will be to evaluate the effects of liensinin onUPRmt markers and mitochondrial function in myotubules.C2C12 cells will be differentiated into myotubules and exposed to differentPurified liensinin concentrations. The cells will be extracted forevaluation of the protein content of UPRmt markers (HSP60, ClpP,Lonp1 and Yme1L1) and OXPHOS components (ATP5a, Uqcrc2, MTCO1,SDHB and NDUF8B) by Western Blot. Finally, the samples will also beRequests for evaluation of mitochondrial respiration by high oxygen oxygenresolution. We believe that the current project can help elucidate the impactof liensinin on mitochondrial function in muscle cells.
