Abstract

Abstract: this project intends to study the irony and the double, two of the main themes of Albert Camus' The fall comparing to Charles Baudelaire's literary production. Considering the prose poems from Le spleen de Paris as base, we will attempt to weave relations between these themes to understand their meaning on Baudelaire's tradition and their usage in the camusian narrative. One point to analyze will be the genesis, because both themes will be studied in Camus' Carnets. As theoretical base for the analysis, we will bring into focus some experts as Wayne Booth, Walter Benjamin and Georg Lukács, on what concerns on the irony. For the double, we can point out Sigmund Freud, Mikhail Bakhtin and Jean-Paul Sartre. By giving priority to the dialogues between these two writers, we have as objective to study this literary reference as a possibility for interpreting this narrative.
