Abstract

Hematological abnormalities are frequently encountered in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and may be secondary to disease processe or secondary to corticosteroids or cytotoxic drugs. Therefore, leucopenia, thrombocitopenia and hemolytic anemia occur in SLE and are part of the classification criteria. Anemia has been associated with disease activity in SLE. Hemolytic anemia occurs in up to 28% of SLE patients. It is associated with younger age of disease onset, male sexa and afro-american origin. It is associated wit more active disease, renal and central nervous system involvement. The aim of this study is to analyze in a cohort of 865b patients the prevalence and clinical impact of hemolytic anemia, with special attention to CNS manifestations
