Synthesis and characterization of nitrosyl ruthenium compounds bearing the biquinoline ligand and dyes in their coordination spheres

Abstract

In this project, it is intended to synthesize and to characterize two novel nitrosyl ruthenium complexes, cis-[Ru(biq)2(S)(NO)](PF6)3, where biq = 2,2´-biquinolina and S = resorufin (R) ou resorufin beta-D-galactopiranosídeo (RG). The aim is to obtain NO complexes that bears coordinated to the metal ion one photosensitizer (the resorufin molecule, which has intense absorption band beyond 500 nm), able to sensitize the labilization of nitric oxide from the irradiation with visible light. This idea is justified by the potentiality to use this kind of compound as agents to delivery ERONs and to act in PDT. Besides the incorporation of the dye in the coordination sphere of the nitrosyl ruthenium complexe, a the choice of the biquinoline ligand is due to the fact that this ligand introduces low laying energy levels in ruthenium compounds and to the fact that this kind of ligand exerts a more pronounced electronic effect in this class of complexes than simple pyridinic ligands. The new compounds will be characterized by meas of UV-visible, infra-red and NMR spectroscopies, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry. Finally, it will be done tests of NO delivery by means of irradiation with visible light and the NO will be detected by amperometric measurements.
