Abstract

This research aims to understand, from the educational reforms of the 1990s and 2000, some aspects of the working conditions of teachers in state schools in the state of São Paulo/Brazil. The discussion considers mainly the actions of the São Paulo Secretary of Education in a context of challenges brought by changes in capitalism and management paradigms, which has resulted in changes in forms of organization of the work of teachers. With more responsibility towards achieving the targets set by the government, teachers have experienced the devaluation of the profession, the exposition to great physical and intellectual wear in situations of stress, the increase of occupational diseases and a low attractiveness of the teaching career, factors which maintain and deepen the precariousness of their working conditions (AU)
