Abstract

The Brazilian government has invested, through regulatory agencies and the Ministry of Mines and Energy, in the insertion of alternative sources in the national energy matrix in order to meet the growing demand, avoid a future energy crisis and expand the application of the concept of Distributed Generation associated with the intelligent management of locally available power sources. The concept of Microgrid arises from this association between Distributed Generation, optimization of power generation resources and the need to meet consumer demand through a safe and reliable power grid. However, one of the characteristics of a Microgrid is its frequent changes in topology, that is, the controllers must guarantee stability of the output variables of the generation plant in case of disturbances such as: local load variation, transition between islanded and grid connected modes of operation and change of generation sources according to the electric power demand. Fractional Order Control is an alternative to improve the performance of Microgrid\'s controllers, as the order of integration and differentiation become design parameters, resulting in a dynamic adjustment that is not provided by the traditional gain adjustment of these controllers. Thus, this thesis presents the application of Fractional Order Control in the voltage regulation of a Distributed Generation plant. The results show that the fractional order provides a new degree of freedom for the voltage controller design, reflecting directly at the plant stability and at the voltage Total Harmonic Distortion.
