Rui Curi is a Bachelor in Pharmacy and Biochemistry from the State University of Maringá (1980), a Master (1982), and a Ph.D. (1984) in Human Physiology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo. Rui Curi was a full professor at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Universidade de São Paulo. He works on intermediary metabolism and the metabolism and function of leukocytes. He investigates the metabolism of glutamine and fatty acids and their control by insulin, diets, and physical exercise. He supervised 25 master's degree dissertations, 53 doctoral theses, and 17 post-doctors. Rui Curi was head of the Department, Director of ICB-USP, and Undergraduate Studies Provost Adviser. He was an Adjunct Distinguished Research Fellow of the School of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Health Sciences, Curtin University (Australia). He was a recipient of the Comenda of the Pharmacy Federal Council and Fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation (USA). He received recognition from Curtin University as an Excellent and Active Visiting Fellow and Honoris Causa Doctor from the Maringá State University. He is a member of Sao Paulo Sciences Academy and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Rui Curi has 47234 citations, an H Index 105, (Google Scholar, 26.11.2025). He is currently director of Escola Superior do Instituto Butantan (ESIB), and Professor of Postgraduate Studies at Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul and Universidade de Marília (UNIMAR). 1A CNPq researcher.
