Abstract

The impact response of metal-fiber laminates has been investigated. Measurements were obtained for impact force and energy dissipation. The failure processes in the impact-loaded were initially investigated by examining the front and rear surfaces of the damaged specimens. After this, the delamination areas of hybrid composites were analyzed by ultrasound techniques. Considering the metal/polymeric composite interfaces, it was observed that the laminate was processed with good quality and the impact energy transferred into the metal-fiber laminate was higher than the observed in aluminum or traditional composites due to elastic restitution. The parameters used in this work describe the real material behavior and can be used as characteristic values to classify materials with respect to their impact stiffness and damage resistance. (AU)
