Abstract

Introduction: Substantial changes in the teaching model of undergraduate nursing courses have been proposed in order to indulge the necessity of forming a reflective professional, able to transform their work reality. In this context, different forms of education based on the simulation of professional practice are developed. Objective: analyze the advancements and challenges in the development of simulation of professional practice of students from undergraduate nursing courses. Method: the study will be developed in three stages, the first being an integrative literature review which will include articles from the years 2011 to 2017; the second is a field research that will be carried out through a self-administered online questionnaire for coordinators of the nursing courses from public and private institutions in Brazil, and the obtained data will be encoded in Microsoft Office Excel® version 2010 spreadsheet for the application of statistical analysis, including mean and standard deviation calculations; the third stage will include a qualitative study through interviews with teachers and coordinators of nursing courses that use simulation as a teaching and learning strategy and investigation will be performed through the Content Analysis proposed by Bardin. Expected Results: this study is expected to obtain the data on how the simulation has been developed in undergraduate nursing courses in Brazil, its advancements and challenges, aiming at a better understanding of this teaching scenario so that it is possible to go forward in this perspective, since it is an educational strategy capable of mobilizing affective, cognitive and psychomotor resources necessary for professional training in health.
