Abstract

The BioDrop Spectrophotometer is a DNA, RNA and protein quantifier necessary for the initial stage of several analyzes because it is necessary to extract the DNA and its quantification to continue the other analyzes of interest, such as: genotyping and selection of characters of economic interest, genetic identification of animals, genetic identification of pathogenic microorganisms. Currently DNA quantification is performed by application of agarose gel sample and comparison with molecular weight standard. This type of quantification (with agarose gel) does not give exact results besides being more laborious, it spends about 40 minutes and it spends much more DNA previously extracted. With the acquisition of this equipment, the quantification will be quicker (immediate result), accurate, economical through the use of only 1 microliter of sample containing DNA, whereas in the currently used method (with agarose gel), 10 microliter of sample. It is expected that with the acquisition of the Biodrop equipment the genetic analyzes will be optimized in relation to the time of preparation and execution of the test, as well as the reduction of waste of materials and work used for the purification of the genetic material through the optimization of the volume of use of the material (DNA or RNA) to be analyzed. With this, a larger number of samples can be analyzed and more volume of search results will be achieved. (AU)
