Abstract
Cutaneous graft is a broadly used on plastic and restorative surgery for treatment of extensive skin lesions caused by burns, abrasions, necrosis of the skin after a trauma or surgery and congenital deformities that underwent surgical corrections. One of the recovery phases of the patient is angiogenesis. The animal model study of cellular and metabolic modulation involved in angiogenesis in skin graft and flap is currently done by laser doppler and invasive histological analysis. These techniques, either by invasiveness or cost issues, make difficult to transfer it to clinical practice. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive technique that uses infrared light to yield microtomographic images of biological structures. The OCT's ability to obtain optical properties of biological tissues has been exploited to develop new diagnostics methods and new OCT signal and imaging analysis techniques, it has been expanding its range of action, especially angiography and spectroscopy OCT. The main goal of this project is to create a research group on Tomography by Optical Coherence in the Universidade Brasil. We propose to develop methodologies for the analysis of OCT images and signals, based on OCT angiography and OCT spectroscopy, applied in angiogenesis of cutaneous grafting. After the project completion, we expect to obtain a OCT methodology that could be transferred to a non-invasive clinical use for angiogenesis progression in dermatology. (AU)
