Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) present the highest mortality rate in the world and hypertension is one of the main risk factors. Even considering the existing pharmacological strategies, one can still observe the high prevalence of CVDs. The renin-angiotensin system is an important regulator of cardiovascular functions and is involved in the development of several diseases related to this system. The beneficial actions of the Ang-(1-7) are well established. Additionally, it was previously observed that the fragment of this peptide, the Asp1-Arg2 dipeptide, also presented beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system. Thus, it can be considered as a therapeutic target for the treatment of CVDs. Due to limitations in the therapeutic use of peptides, strategies aiming at the development of stable compounds with similar effects of peptides with protective activities are of great relevance. Thus, the objective of this project will be to develop compounds from the Asp1-Arg2 dipeptide through encapsulation, hybridization and molecular simplification strategies that have therapeutic potential for cardiovascular diseases.
