Abstract

The digital transformation will play a fundamental role in overcoming the contemporary challenges faced by the Industry, including the efficient use of natural resources, increasing the efficiency of processes, adding value to its products through digital services, and reorganizing the work with the introduction of new tools, among others. As one of the highlights in terms of digital transformation tools, Artificial Intelligence has a fundamental role in the evolution of industries, making activities more effective, productive, and competitive internationally. Considering the need to accelerate the adoption and diffusion of these technologies, this proposal aims to create the Applied Research Center (CPA) in Artificial Intelligence aimed at the Industry. CPA will adopt an open innovation approach, reinforcing each participant's efforts and enabling the creation of an innovation ecosystem in Artificial Intelligence. The Center will take advantage of synergies with other partners' initiatives and opportunities, such as the installation of the Center for the 4th Industrial Revolution (World Economic Forum) office, research lines of the Rota 2030 program (automobile industry), EMBRAPII, among others, in order to increase the positive impacts on industrial activity.The scientific challenges will address critical elements and technologies for the implantation of Artificial Intelligence in an industrial scope, based on the multidisciplinary nature of CPA, in cooperation with the network of existing partners, enabling the execution and coordination of complex and competitive pre-competitive projects. The research projects will be guided by the challenges of the industries on six major themes: Monitoring and Control in Real-Time; Digital Twin; Interoperability and Chain Integration; Prescriptive Maintenance and Intelligent Operation; Autonomous Systems, Robotics, and Machine Tools; Cybersecurity. The Center will structure an Artificial Intelligence Platform to enable the acceleration and digitalization of the Brazilian Industry by applying state of the art focused on meeting the Industry's needs, conducting R & D and executing proofs of concept and installing the concepts in demonstration plants. The whole process will involve aspects of knowledge diffusion and technology transfer integrated into an innovation ecosystem. The expected results include sectoral analyzes and the challenges of the industry 4.0 ecosystem in Brazil; training of masters and doctors; generating patents; developing startups and spin-offs; Scientific publications; and developing public policies for the diffusion of technologies. Companies will also be able to use the results of the Center in their technology development projects. The impact of the Center will occur through two perspectives: (i) the technological perspective, with incremental or disruptive innovation models, would change the way the Industry operates or manufactures its products; (ii) the intellectual property perspective, where the knowledge generated at CPA is used through Pre-Competitive Technological Innovation Projects, consultancy or advisory services, or licensing to third parties, whether through patents, software, or development of Startups and Spin-offs. The Center has the participation of eight founding industrial partners, 85 researchers from Brazilian universities and research institutes, with the assistance of seven research institutions and universities in its international council, with the coordination of a management committee formed by a specialist from the sector and the gym. Together, these institutions bring the elements necessary to promote a World Reference Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Center for the Industry's technological development. (AU)
