Abstract

The Center for Research on the Implementation of Educational Policies will investigate the processes of educational policy implementation in the state of São Paulo, with a focus on curriculum policies. Based on an analysis of the process of public policy implementation, we will seek to understand what challenges exist and how to improve them. Here we consider that the implementation process ranges from policy design issues to pedagogical and curricular elements, school management, teacher training and the experience of students within schools. The Center will be based at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation and will be coordinated by Professor Ricardo Gomesc for a period of 5 years. Its activities will be organized into 5 research pillars, each coordinated by a lead researcher: i) Formulation of Curricular Policies; ii) Communication and interaction with Stakeholders; iii) School Management and Leadership; iv) Teaching and Curricular Policies; v) Curricular Policies and Students' Educational Development. In each pillar, the research activities will be divided into two stages. The first will be to diagnose the problem, during which the implementation challenges will be identified. The second stage will be the design, experimentation and evaluation of modular solutions. The Center's activities will aim to diagnose and propose improvements to issues related to the implementation of the curriculum in order to have a positive impact on student learning and reduce educational inequalities.
