Activity-guided isolation and identification of the constituents from leaves of Coriandrum sativum L. through evaluation in vitro and in vivo antitumoral activity

Abstract

The study of the antitumoral activity of medicinal plants is very important connected with the fact of the cancer of being one of the biggest problems of public health in Brazil and in the world. In the USA, a million new cases appear approximately yearly. In Brazil, the number of cases of cancer increases to each year and in the Brazilian South-east, the malignant tumors represent the second biggest cause of deaths. The CPQBA/UNICAMP since 1996 is developing the selection of medicinal plants with anticancer activity following the same methodology of the NCI-USA. The preliminary data of this study indicate that hexanic and hydro alcoholic extracts of Coriandrum sativum L. (0,25 to 250 µg/mL) presents a potential antitumoral activity in vitro. The nine tumor cell lines were valued: K562 (leukemia), MCF7 (breast), NCIADR (resistant breast to multiple drugs), NCI460 (lung), UACC62 (melanoma), PCO3 (prostate), HT29 (colon), OVCAR (ovary). The maximal effect was observed for leukemia (K562). This multidisciplinary project objective the isolation and identification of active compounds of the C. sativum through the results of antitumoral activity in vitro. The isolated compounds will be tested in Ehrlich tumor in mice or was studied tumor ascítico on Erlich and/or mice imunodeficientes model. (AU)
