Immobilization of 1,8-dihydroxy-2-(4-sulfophenylazo)naphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid trisodium (SPADNS) in diverse solid phases - assessment and use in the development of spectrophotometric method

Abstract

Separation and pre-concentration processes are mostly required to eliminate interferents, enhance sensitivity and improve spectrophotometric and spectrometric technique-related detection limits. These processes include extractions such as liquid-liquid, cloud point, solid phase, co-precipitation and precipitation. The earlier mentioned solid-phase extraction has been used at scale thanks to its availability and recuperation easiness, highly achieved pre-concentration factor, further selectivity, more possibilities to gather samplings and pre-concentrations in situ, as well as coupling to flow injection analytical systems, which also makes process automation. It is believed that one of the key challenges in Analytical Chemistry is focused on working on new solid phases that would add the existing advantages from flow injection analysis-associated solid-to-liquid extraction process, with a view to developing analytical methods that could be directly related to ‘Clean Analytical Chemistry’, i.e. lower use of reagents and lesser disposal of residue. Based on such thoughts and inputs, this project is entirely devoted to assessing the immobilization of SPADNS throughout various solid phases (silica gel, XAD-2 and XAD-7), with the aim to apply modified solid support in developing analytical methods coupled with the flow injection analysis system and detection by using high resolution continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry (HR-CS AAS). Both adsorption and desorption for SPADNS should be assessed in solid phases. The aforesaid spectrometric method will be developed and used to identify metals in a wide range of samples. (AU)
