Abstract

Similarly to Brazil, Canada has re-planned management so as to release it from the rigid principles of the very bureaucratic public administration that has revealed to be incompatible with the organization of the quality of the health services. This study focuses on understanding and evaluating the process of implementation of the participative management in hospital facilities trying to compare and exchange experiences that might improve and enrich this kind of contemporary management in both countries. The objective is to analyze and compare the managers and the employees of nursing staff experiences of Brazilian and Canadian Hospitals in the implementation of the Participative Management, regarding the processes of decision-making, communication and power. Were adopted the theoretical of the authors Lee G. Bolman and Terrence E. Deal that had sorted insights from both research and practice into four major frames - structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. Will be used the Participatory Action Research (PAR) that is a powerful methodology for advancing scientific knowledge as well for achieving practical objectives. This study will be carried out in a public hospital in Ribeirão Preto - SP, Brazil and in a public hospital in Edmonton, province of Alberta, Canada. Data collection will be carried out with professionals from the nursing teams of these hospitals, as well as the managers/directors. In the study's two stages of development, first the analysis of the documents related to the organizational structure of the hospitals will be performed. Afterwards, we will start an observation seeking to describe the Management Model of the university hospitals and to identify the nurses' perceptions about the difficulties related to the model adopted in both realities. The researcher will use a field diary and semi-structured interview. (AU)
