Requirement of digestible protein and amino acids in tambaqui juveniles and muscle growth dynamics by morphological aspects and isotopic turnover of carbon-13 and nitrogen-15

Abstract

Tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum stands among the native species with potential for aquaculture, for hardiness, adaptation to cultivation and high productivity in intensive system. With great commercial importance, it is necessary to establish nutrition studies with this species to formulate diets that allow a better performance expression and great carcass characteristics, associated to a lower excretion of nutrients to environment as well as reduction of feeding costs. Thus, the current research will be divided in to four studies, having as aims: 1- The determination of apparent digestibility ratio of protein, fat, energy and amino acids in nine protein foods and seven energetic foods common by used ones in commercial fish diets. 2. The determination of digestible protein requirement for juvenile tambaqui at beginning growth, through conventional performance parameters, and by more strict methodologies to the dynamics of muscle growth, as histology of development of the fish muscle fibers and the isotopic turnover of carbon (´13C) and nitrogen (´15N) in muscle tissue. 3. To estimate the digestible amino acid requirements by the concept of ideal protein. 4. Evaluation the effect of lysine and / or methionine supplementation in practice diet at stable isotopic turnover of carbon (´13C) and nitrogen (´15N) in muscle tissue for tambaqui juveniles. (AU)
