Abstract

Soybean meal is an important protein source in aquafeeds, but it's also used in human diet which increases demand and price of this source. Detoxified Jatropha curcas kernel meal is a byproduct of biodiesel extraction that can be used as an alternative protein source for fishes feeds mainly because of its high protein composition, similar to the soybean meal. Some studies points out that the inclusion of more than 50% of these source in feeds promotes good results in carps, tilapias and trouts growth performance. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to investigate levels of inclusion of detoxified Jatropha kernel in feeds for pacu and dourado, important indigenous Brazilian species, and its effects on growth performance. Biochemical and morphological analysis will be done to evaluate the effect of antinutricional factors or any other chemical compound that could interfere on fish's health. (AU)
