In situ evaluation of anticariogenic action of dentifrice with low fluoride content and supplemented with phosphate

Abstract

The use of dentifrices with low fluoride (F) content have been a form to decrease the fluoride ingeston and, also, the dental fluorosis decrease. The aim of this study will be evaluated, in situ, the efficacy of dentifrices with low fluoride content supplemented with phosphate (P). 10 adult volunteers will use acrylic palatal appliances each containing four bovine enamel blocks. This study will be performed in 3 phases during 14 days and a interval of 7 days between the phases. The enamel blocks will be polish and selected through surface microhardness (SMH). The volunteers will drip on the enamel blocks a solution of 20% sucrose and perform the treatment with dentifrices containing 500µgF/g and 1% of a phosphate salt, placebo (without F e P) and Crest® (1100µgF/g). After each phase, the percentage change of SMH, mineral loss (deltaZ) and F, calcium and phosphorus content in enamel will be calculated. The dental biofilm will be collected to perform the biochemical analysis. (AU)
