Abstract

Some studies have been done on the association of dental restorative materials and antiseptic solutions, therefore, particularly chlorhexidine (CHX), and the benefits have side effects. Thus become necessary to study alternative solutions as effective as the CHX, but without these side effects. Thus, researchers will look at Casearia Sylvestris (CS), is a medicinal plant and provides many benefits, but, however, little is known about the effect of these restorative materials (MR) and some doubts remain about its potential antimicrobial and their toxicity on cells. The objective of this study is to evaluate the biological properties of essential oil and the effect of CS on MR. Will be obtained essential oil from CS, determined the minimum inhibitory concentrations and bactericidal these, compared to the species Streptococcus (mutans, mitis, and salivarius sanguinis) and Enterococcus faecalis compared to CHX.For the evaluation of surface roughness, color, hardness, qualitative analysis of the surface (SEM) and chemical (fluorescence spectrometry X-rays), MR submitted to the solutions under study, 90 specimens will be made (n = 10), 30 of each MR (composite, glass ionomer cement and ceramics), which will be divided into 3 groups to be submitted: G1 - CHX, G2 - Essential oil of CS and G4 - Distilled. Readings will be held with the appropriate apparatus, after polishing of specimens and 24 hours after the end of the trial period. The results will be evaluated according to the classical statistical concepts, after exploratory data analysis.
