Discoursive practices and deafness conceptions: the bilingual school in the inclusive educational context

Abstract

The deaf students's inclusion process at regular and specialized educational institution is a complex issue, which has the main discussion point their specificity linguistic represented by the Brazilian Sign Language. This research objectives a comparative analysis about the contribution of the discoursive and pedagogical practices to the deaf's bilingual constitution, from two different educational spaces: specialized and regular schools. Altogether, this research will investigate how the school's pedagogical propositions deal with the ideals of bilingual education in the inclusive educational system. Whereupon, 10 deaf students, 100 teachers and 6 school administrators that belong to the two schools will participate of this study. The research will characterize itself by a study of case, based on ethnographic qualitative research applied to education. The collection instruments that will be used are: a) observation about the pedagogic and discoursive practices in the classroom; b) questionnaire with the teachers and schools administrators; c) analysis of official documents from the schools and the portuguese language teacher's planning. We expect that this research results estimulate new discussions about the deafness conceptual comprehension, referring to linguistic and pedagogical changes that need to be made to attend to the deaf's educational needs at the regular and specialized schools, considering the ideals of bilingual and inclusive education.
