Abstract

The market for pet food has been growing along with the search for foods that promote health and well-being of animals. In older dogs especially the nutritional intervention aims to extend and enhance the quality of life, as well as delay the onset of disorders and diseases related to aging. It is believed that the benefits of the active fractions of mananoproteínas (FAM), obtained from the extraction and fractionation of the cell wall of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), including blocking the colonization of pathogenic bacteria, modulation of the immune system and modification of the morphology bowel. This study aims to evaluate the potential immunological effects of EGF on dogs of different ages. Will be employed with three diets isonutritives 0% inclusion of EGF (T0 - negative control), 0.04% FAM (T40) and 0.08% FAM (T80). Will be used a total of 12 beagle dogs, six adult dogs aged two to six years and six aged dogs over the age of 10 years. The treatments will result from the combination of two factors, two levels with age (adults and elderly) and diet with three levels (T0, T40 and T80), yielding six treatments, which will be distributed in six blocks, with the blocking factor repetition Experimental. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance with repeated measures. For the quantification of blood leukocytes and immunophenotypic phagocytosis assay, each treatment will be measured at zero, 14 and 28. For evaluation hematological, biochemical, cell proliferation assay, determining the production of reactive intermediates of oxygen and nitrogen, evaluation of fecal IgA concentration and delayed hypersensitivity test, each treatment will be evaluated at zero and 28 days. The differences of means are compared by F test analysis of variance and contrasts of orthogonal polynomials, evaluated by the GLM procedure of the software. (AU)
