Abstract

Delays in development are produced by the combination of risk factors and, one of the consequences is prematurity. Authors consider that the damage caused in the development can be reduced by early detection of gaps, and by the implementation of early intervention programs. As a result, this study aims to verify the effects of prematurity on an infant's development from one to twelve months of life, also considering the corrected age. This study will be accomplished with 120 babies that will be assessed monthly until 12 months of life. For evaluation of development will be used the Operational Portage Inventory (OPI), an instrument that assesses the behavioral repertoire of children, distributed in the areas of Socialization, Cognition, Language, Self-care, and Motor Development. The data developments will be described and analyzed in view of the chronological age and the corrected age of prematurity babies and compared to the data development of babies in the Control Group. This is intended to diagnose possible deficit areas in the development of these babies in order to facilitate diagnosis of problems and optimize designs of stimulation, contributing to the healthy development of premature infants.(AU)
