Abstract

This project aims to develop a part of the candidate's PhD thesis, whose goal is to obtain a method for analysis of quality of service on two-lane, rural highways in Brazil. To determine level of service in this kind of highway, the Highway Capacity Manual 2010 (HCM2010) propose that Percent Time-Spent-Following (PTSF) and Average Travel Speed (ATS) have to be used. However, PTSF is impossible to be estimated from the traffic observation. In the literature, there are researches that propose measures of effectiveness that can be collected from traffic observation. Based on this, it is intended to select one or more measures of effectiveness that can be appropriate to determine level of service on highways in Brazil. For this, traffic data were collected from Brazilian highways in order to calibrate and validate the simulator CORSIM. Using synthetic traffic data produced with CORSIM, it is intended to develop relationships between directional traffic flow and measures of effectiveness to be chosen in this project. (AU)
