Abstract

The main objective of this research project is to assess the reception of Brazilian Literature translated into English. The first part of the research will focus on Europe, mainly the United Kingdom. The study will be developed in several lines, by means of interviews and contacts with translators, professors teaching in Brazilian Literature departments, editors, bookshops and libraries in the United Kingdom, with the aim to reaching a broad understanding of the cultural agents who determine the process of translation and distribution of Brazilian literary works abroad. A webpage will be created to publicize the study. This webpage will be continually updated with results of the research and also from other researchers who work in similar research areas, either in the Portuguese-English or in other language pairs.
