Abstract

Introduction: Although non-cystic fibrosis (CF) bronchiectais is a chronic, debilitating and progressive disease, there is a paucity of specific instruments that assess the impact of this disease in day to day activities in these patients. Objective: To assess the reproducibility and validity of the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease assessment test (CAT) for patients with non-CF bronchiectasis. Methods: Sixty-five patients, age d 18 years, and clinically stable will be evaluated. Patients will perform spirometry, incremental shuttle walking test (ISWT) and they will answer the St George´s respiratory questionnaire (SGRQ) and CAT. After a week, patients will answer to the CAT again. Expected results: Our hypothesis is that the CAT will be reproducible even in this disease, since it is a simple and easy to understand. Additionally, the CAT will be an effective instrument to measure the effect of the disease on daily life of patient with non-CF bronchiectasis, because their scores will be consistent with the scores of SGRQ and with the performance in SWT, an objective measure of functional capacity.
