Abstract

Brazil has nearly a third of the world flora represented in ten biomes with a lush biodiversity. However, very little has been done to transform this potential into competitive advantage in products and patents, especially considering a development which ensures the allocation of a part of social and other benefits, protection and maintenance of these ecosystems.Universities, research laboratories and private play a significant role in the development of new knowledge that provide the basis for developing new products. The proposed post-doctoral project linked to the theme "Botanicals standard for the treatment of chronic diseases" of FAPESP, plans to conduct a study on the species Arrabidaea brachypoda in order to enable the development of a (s) herbal medicine (s) accordance with the requirements of current legislation. In a second moments will be carried forward with appropriate pharmacological compounds already isolated Arrabidaea brachypoda, since in previous project these same compounds showed extremely promising potential for the development of pesticides, with activities in Malaria, Chagas and Leischmania, which now make up a patent application with the Agency's Innovation UNESP and the University of Geneva (Switzerland). In addition to support activities and research carried internally, a partnership with the University of Geneva (Switzerland) will enable the exchange of scientific information and methodologies with Swiss group of chemists and pharmacologists in the area of product development, enriching and complementing the objectives initially proposed by thematic project underway and this project linked to it.
