Abstract

Obesity is the disease with the highest number of cases in progress in recent years. This disorder usually associated with excessive intake of carbohydrates and lipids, is related to the development of chronic diseases such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), in all these co-morbidities there is an increase chronic systemic inflammation, leading to a decrease in expectation and quality of life. Obesity and insulin resistance promote several changes in liver functions related to fatty acids(FA) metabolism and favor the non-alcoholic steatosis (NASH) that it is an ectopic triglyceride deposition in hepatocytes parenchyma (Tilg Moschen and 2008; di Minno, Russolillo et al. 2012). A main treatments, today, to NASH is based on calorie restriction diet and physically active lifestyle. Exercise is capable of activate the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This protein complex is responsible for increasing the oxidative metabolism by stimulating lipolytic gene expression and inhibiting lipogenic genes expression. Furthermore, AMPK activates the Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPARs) (Canto and Auwerx 2010). PPARs are transcription factors of the nuclear receptor family that control the expression of genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. Our objective is to verify whether the beneficial effects of physical training on metabolism and liver inflammation are dependent on PPAR-alpha. (AU)
