Potential use of alcoholic extracts from sugarcane top leaves on in vitro antioxidant capacity and antibacterial activities against sugarcane broth contaminats

Abstract

Due to the Law of the Burning of SugarCane (Law no. 11,241 / 2002), which deals with the controlled burning of sugarcane for husking and their gradual elimination, has been increasingly greater search for new uses for the residual straw. It is estimated that are generated 140 kg of straw per tonne of sugarcane processed in Brazilian mills. Part of this straw currently remains in the field, bringing some problems for planting or accumulated in industrial courtyards. One way of exploiting this straw has been studied in relation to its content of biologically active compounds, particularly flavonoids, which are present in all parts of the sugarcane being suggested for various pharmacological actions, such as antioxidant and antimicrobial. A viable alternative to the use of this coproduct is the extraction of active compounds. The goal of this project will be evaluate the extraction effeciency of active compounds from sugarcane top leaves using ozone as extractive agent, to differents times, pH and doses. The samples collected after the treatments will be analyzed for the contents of flavonoids, phenolic, quinone and their total antioxidant capacity in vitro, as well as assess their antimicrobial activities (bacteriostatic) against bacteria of the genus bacilli through the agar diffusion bioassay.
