Abstract

The foals at birth don't have adequate levels of serum immunoglobulins, so considered agamaglobulinêmicos. This is due to the placentation of the mare was epiteliocorial type, which hinders to transfer macromolecules such as Immunoglobulin (Ig). The colostrum is a primary Ig source for equine neonates, it's should be good quality and swallowed in the first hours of life, after twelve hours the colts intestinal epithelium begins to lose the ability to absorb macromolecules. The ideal levels of Ig serum in the first 12 hours of life are > 800mg/dL, below that is considered as Failure to Passive Transfer (FTP), values between 400-800 mg/dL and < 400 mg/dL was considered Partial Failure Transfer of Passive Immunity (FPTP) and Total Failure (FTTP) respectively. Transfusion of hyperimmune plasma in neonatal foals has been used to increase the resistance against infectious agents, so it is expensive and increases the labor in farms. This research have main purpose assess the levels of imunoglobulins in Thoroughbred foals treated with plasma from hyperimmunized donors, as well as serum levels and colostral Thoroughbred mares, and serum levels of donor animals with intantion of understand of immunoglobulins kinetics.
