Abstract

This proposed doctoral research deals with the Electric Power Quality (PQ) in aeronautical environments, proposing the use of a three-phase power electronics conditioner (PEC) to mitigate the unwanted effects found in the AC internal feeders. This PEC must operate on a network of variable frequency (360-800 Hz, as used in modern aircrafts) using a multilevel inverter topology, providing a way to optimize the switching pattern, to decrease the harmonic content and to comply with the requirements of standards. The need to use the PEC is linked to the growing movement entitled More Electric Aircraft (MEA) which aims to replace pneumatic and hydraulic actuators by electromechanical actuators, which increases interoperability and control system but increases the power consumption in the airplane. Nevertheless, the increase in electricity consumption is associated with a decrease of fuel consumption due to the lower overall aircraft weight and lower losses associated with power conversion. To calculate the references for the PEC it will be used the CPT - Conservative Power Theory, that seems to be the better method for variable frequency condition with fast rates, as high as 500 Hz/s. Digital or hybrid solutions with DSPs , FPGAs or other microcontroller system will be studied and defined along the project development. (AU)
