Abstract

The introduction of sequential injection chromatography expanded the potentialities of flow analysis for determination of multicomponents. Strategies to improve selectivity and capacity of separation have been presented, as stepwise elution and fused-core particles columns. The analytical performance has also been improved by on-line sample treatment. The present project aims to expand the analytical capacity of SIC system by the use of two-dimensional chromatography applied to the determination of phenolic compounds in wine and the on-column preconcentration for determination of furfurals in fruit juices. The procedures will be based on two chromatographic columns with distinct properties. The analytes poorly separated in the first dimension will be processed in the second dimension, allowing the separation by a different type of interaction. Eight-ports selection valves will be used for solutions management and selection of the fractions from the first. On-column preconcentration will be based on the trapping of the analytes in the head of the chromatographic column for posterior separation by a suitable mobile phase. Theses procedures are innovative in sequential injection chromatography and will expand its separation capacity and applicability.
