Abstract

The use of formal assessment tools for speech therapist has been increasingly used for providing systematic and quantified the performance of an individual in specific skills analysis. Analyzing the performance of the skill of storytelling is possible to observe the ability to make inferences, store, organize a narrative schema, structuring sentences and perform lexical choices. In Brazil, there are virtually no systematic procedures for evaluation of spoken language, especially in complex skills, such as oral storytelling. In view of this, the aim of this study is to investigate the performance of speakers of Brazilian Portuguese in the Brazilian version of the Test of Narrative Language (TNL). Participate in this study 140 subjects aged five years and 11 years and 11 months old, of both genders, with typical language development, being subdivided into seven groups of 20 subjects each, according to age group. The test has three formats: (1) no figures; (2) with one figure and (3) with five figures. Each format has two tasks, one on understanding of narrative and on the production of narrative, ie, retelling stories and preparing stories based on the figures. Each task has a score, and the end of the test we have the overall score of the reception and expression of narrative. Data will be analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and parametric and nonparametric tests. (AU)
