Abstract

The ruins of Engenho São Jorge dos Erasmos, is currently an equity tumbled in several instances. They are framed in a stage of tipping still little explored in Brazil. And, along with the remains present in what is now the Museu de São Miguel in the south of the country, are considered one of the few examples of equity in state of ruin in Brazil. Though a lot of work on the theme of European theories restoration, the ruins are little explored in research and analysis of preservation and conservation in Brazil, due to the few examples that have withstood the time, and still growing interest towards this subject. The Engenho is an object of considerable importance because, beyond its differential character, to find himself in a state of ruin, he is also one of the examples of colonial mills still present in the southeastern region of the country. Engenho hold much economic importance in the region competing with the Brazilian Northeast in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The objective of this research is to work on the theme of conservation, preservation and restoration of Engenho in question, and relate it to existing theories in Europe on the subject. For this literature surveys, site visits will be conducted, and analysis and subsequently formulate working relationships between the object and the propositions made by these theories. (AU)
