Abstract

This research internship abroad will consist of: (1) two complementary studies related to the test developed during the ongoing research in Brazil, (2) analysis of the data obtained in Brazil together with the American supervisor, and (3) a period to the post-doctoral researcher deepen her knowledge in the field of auditory temporal processing. The first study we will perform is a cross-linguistic study of the test developed in Brazil. Cross-linguistic studies are important to verify the influence of the spoken language in tests to assess auditory processing: the absence of differences in performance to the test between speakers of different languages, could suggest the test's universality. The second study will aim in verifying the feasibility of an Auditory Brainstem Response backward masking paradigm. Behavioral measures suffers influence of several non-auditory factors, therefore, objective measures has been used to study sensory and cognitive contribution to auditory responses. If this paradigm prove to be feasible and reliable, it will allow to investigate backward masking through both behavioral and ABR responses. The other activities planned for this internship will enable the candidate to expand her background knowledge on auditory temporal processing, and apply it to the ongoing research in Brazil, and further studies.
