Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the anti-erosive effect of solutions containing sodium fluoride (500 ppm F), tin chloride (800 ppm Sn), some film-forming copolymers, and combinations thereof. Deionized water is will be used as a negative control. The solutions will be tested in an erosion-remineralization cycling model, using enamel and dentin specimens obtained from bovine incisors (n=10 each substrate). Before cycling, the specimens will be exposed to clarified human saliva, for 2 h. The cycling will consist of 5 min immersion in 0.3% citric acid (pH 2.6), followed by 120 min exposure to clarified human saliva. This procedure will be repeated 4 times a day, for 5 days. Treatment with test solutions will be carried out 2 times a day, 60 min after the first and last erosive challenges, for 2 min. At the end of the experiment, surface loss of the specimens (in µm) will be evaluated with an optical profilometer. The surface loss data will be then subjected to appropriate statistical analyses (± = 0.05). As an additional experiment, three specimens of each group will be treated with the test solutions and assessed qualitatively by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). (AU)
