Abstract

Phosphates have the ability to modify the surface of hydroxyapatite (HA), through adsorption on the enamel. Knowing that property, the objective of this study is to evaluate the hexametaphosphate adsorption capacity of microparticle sodium (HMP) associated or not with fluoride (F) on the tooth enamel. Bovine enamel blocks (4 mm x 4 mm, n = 96; 12 packs / group) are selected, through the surface hardness (SH) and then treated by immersion in solutions containing HMP at concentrations of 0.25%; 0.5%; 1.0%. These HMP concentrations are associated or not with F at a concentration of 1100 ppm F. A negative control solution without F / HMP (Placebo) will also be used. Shall be determined concentrations of F and inorganic phosphorus (Pi) before and after the treatment to calculate the adsorption thereof to the enamel. To analyze the mechanism of interaction of HMP / F with the enamel surface, the measured contact angle is measured on the surface of the enamel block in order to determine the surface free energy. The most appropriate statistical test of distribution of the data will be used by the statistical program Sigmaplot © software for Windows version 12.0, with a significance level of 5%.
