Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a heterogeneous group of metabolic disorders that have in common hyperglycemia resulting from defects in secretion and/or insulin action. In 2014, the estimated of diabetes global prevalence was 8.3%, representing 387 million people, while in Brazil the prevalence in the same year was approximately 8.7%. Patients with type 2 diabetes have a risk of two to four times greater for the development of CVD than non-diabetic. Dyslipidemia is an important metabolic disorder found in DM2 and the most common lipid abnormality in these patients is to hypertriglyceridemia, low-cholesterol associated with high density lipoprotein (HDL-C). Clinical and epidemiological studies have shown that low HDL-C content is strong and independently associated with coronary disease. However, some studies have questioned this association, raising the possibility that required a more detailed analysis of this lipoprotein. In recent years, in addition to the anti-atherogenic activity of HDL, inhibition of expression of adhesion molecules, antioxidant roles (apolipoproteins AI, AII and PON), anti-inflammatory and antithrombotic, capture of lipids and the particle size of HDL have also been associated with the cardioprotective effect of HDL. The leptin and adiponectin are adipocytokines that are important mediators of insulin sensitizers and regulate glucose metabolism by various mechanisms, such as promotion of insulin secretion and glucose storage, inhibition of glucagon secretion and hepatic gluconeogenesis. In this context, the present study aims to evaluate the association between leptin and adiponectin with the antioxidant capacity of HDL in patients with type 2 diabetes. This is a cross-sectional study and the proposal is a subproject of the project Doctoral student Flavia De Conti Cartolano (Program Nutrition in Public Health Public Health School, University of São Paulo) entitled "Omega 3 supplementation Impact of size, functionality, antioxidant capacity and lipidomic profile of high-density lipoprotein in Brazilian individuals, "which is in processing of review by FAPESP (2014 / 24899-5). This, in turn, is inserted in the main study "Physical and chemical properties of LDL and HDL, cardiometabolic and oxidative markers can be modulated by the consumption of omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 in individuals with intermediate cardiovascular risk?" that is a clinical, randomized, controlled, double-blind, parallel, funded by FAPESP (Proc. 2011 / 12523-2), National Institute of Science and Technology Complete Fluid (INCT-FCx 2010-2014) and the Center for Support for Complex Fluid Research (NAP-FCx 2011-2016). Therefore we emphasize that the steps for inclusion of patients, demographic and clinical characteristics, anthropometric and nutrition have been completed. (AU)
