Abstract

New titanium alloys (Ti) have been developed aiming to help the successful long term implant due to its similarity to the modulus of bone, and positive influence on the osseointegration process. Thus, the objective of this research is to compare osteogenesis in vivo in Ti implants pure grade 2 and alloy Ti-35Nb-7Zr through histological and histomorphometric analysis. Initially the implants will be characterized by scanning electron microscope, EDS and roughness test to evaluate the influence of the material on the surface topography. Will be used in this study, ten rabbits, which will receive 2 implants: a) Ti group (control): threaded implant machined surface of commercial Titanium Fix brand; b) Alloy Group (experimental): threaded implant machined surface made with the Ti-35Nb-7Zr. Each rabbit will receive an implant in each group on the right tibia and five rabbits were randomly selected, euthanized are 2 and 6 weeks after surgery. Bone fragments containing the implants will undergo through histomorphometric analysis to assess the amount of newly formed bone at the bone-implant interface and histological analysis to analyze the bone at the bone-implant interface. The data are statistically analyzed using GraphPad Prism software (GraphPad, San Diego, CA) initially through the normal test aiming at applying appropriate statistical test. The significance level is the conventional value of 5%.
