Abstract

Adequate corrosion resistance and the shear, the low modulus of elasticity andbiocompatibility are relevant characteristics of the new Titanium alloys, making it humas upper material is very promising for orthopedic implants. The objective this studywill be to evaluate in vitro the influence of Niobium (Nb) and Zirconium (Zr) elementspresent in the alloy Ti-Nb-Zr about osteoblastic activity and biofilm formation. Thesamples will be make with different materials and then they will be divide: a) titanium(Ti - Control); b) Ti-35Nb-7Zr; c) Nb and d) Zr. Previously the in vitro study, all thesamples will be identifie by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersivespectroscopy to observe the surface topography and presence of elements. Osteoblasticcells, differentiated mesenchymal cells obtained from femurs rats will be grown onsamples and after predetermined periods, will be make cytotoxicity tests, alkalinephosphatase activity and quantification of the nodule. Analysis for formation ofbiofilms, standardize suspensions (107 cells / ml) will be add in microplate wellscontaining as samples. Then the monotypic biofilms of S. aureus, S. mutans, S.sanguinis will be broke with ultrasonic homogenizer, and the suspensions will be diluteand plate on agar Brain Heart Infusion (BHI). After 48 hours, the colonies formingunits will be count for milliliter (CFU / mL) and values obtain will be convert to log10.All data obtain will be analyze using the normal test and then the statistical tests will beapplies with appropriate level of significance of 5%.
