Abstract

Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) and Salmonella Typhimurium (ST) are among the most frequent serovars found in birds and humans. It has been shown that the presence of the flagellar structure in pathogen induces intestinal inflammation and attenuation of systemic infection in the host. Moreover, the absence of the protein in aflagellated strains induces severe systemic infection resulting in lower intestinal colonization and inflammatory response. Therefore, we propose the construction of SE and ST strains containing many flagella and exporting large amounts of flagellin possibly attenuates the infection. This study aims to evaluate the infection of these mutant strains containing deletions in genes ClpP and FliD, evaluating their behavior in birds for commercial hein layers. Mutants with the corresponding wild strains, SE and ST, will be inoculated in birds for evaluation of pathogenicity.
