Abstract

Overtraining syndrome (SOT) promotes reduction or stagnation of athletic performance, being caused by an imbalance between training sessions and recovery time. This syndrome is commonly associated with metabolic, endocrine, biochemical, immunological and behavioral changes. In this project will be used Wistar rats submitted to an Experimental model of overtraining induction for the development of Functional overreaching (FOR) and nonfunctional (NFOR) condition. Intense physical exercise can cause various changes in the gastrointestinal tract such as dehydration and changes in intestinal traffic and perfusion. Therefore, the objective of this project will be to investigate plasma concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines TNF±, IL-6, IL-1² and IFN-³ and anti-inflammatory IL-10 as well as the production in the gut epithelium of rats in FOR, NFOR and sedentary (SD) conditions. 100 young male rats, weighing between 150 and 250g, will be used initially distributed in control (CT), trained (TR), functional overreaching (FOR) and non-functional overreaching (NFOR) groups. The duration of the overtraining induction protocol will be 12 weeks, distributed in 5 phases. Phases 1 and 2 will consist of a single exercise session daily. In phases 3, 4 and 5 will increase the frequency and volume of training accompanied by reduced recovery time. Seven maximum tests (Tmax) will be applied during the induction protocol to overtraining for fitness monitoring rats and these will be performed before the beginning of the protocol and after the 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th week of training. Soon after the Tmax-7, the rats will be submitted to euthanasia, at this time the ileum and colon will be collected for analysis of the intestinal epithelium and quantification of cytokines by histology and ELISA.
