Mark Antony was an important Roman politician at the end of the Republic. He was linked to important personages and occupied the main political and military positions of the time, which made his life receive great attention. While alive, he received criticism from opponents and esteem of supporters. After his death, remember his life became delicate, either by the process of Damnatio Memoriae that suffered, or by de close connection that his military defeat in Actium had with the legitimation of the principate and of the imperial power and with the speech of the winner, or by his heirs integrate the Domus Augusta and his older partisans being members of Roman society. However, the memories about him remained alive, even in a clandestine mode, until being officially rehabilitated during the principate. This doctorate research project has as main issue understand: why and how the memories about Mark Antony were deleted, preserved and rehabilitated? Thereby, we'll deal with the processes of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction of memories about the character in a wider panorama, understanding that remember Mark Antony was something in dispute and delicate. For this, will be taken as documentary corpus texts of different genres from century I B.C. to century A.D. II, coins and inscriptions, aiming to understand how the images about Mark Antony were created, how they were retaken as memories, how they were subjected to silences and forgetfulness actions in this process of framing and dispute of memories, until, finally, they were rehabilitated.
