Abstract

This research proposal aims to understand the conceptions of development that guide the demands of family farmers and guide the action of extensionists and public managers linked to the operationalization of public policies for family agriculture in the municipality of Pelotas. This research is justified by the possibility that reveals to propose a reflection about the content of a term widely incorporated into the daily lexicon, but often, in a little precise way. With this reflection, it is possible to contribute to the theoretical-academic production in the field of Geography, by proposing a necessary reflection on the development strategies adopted by the State for the Brazilian rural. Aiming at achieving the stated objective, a methodology with a qualitative bias, to be operationalized through interviewing (GIL, 1987) with four groups of informants (public managers, extensionists, family farmers assisted by Public policies and family farmers not beneficiaries of public policies). The information obtained will be analyzed using the techniques of content analysis (BARDIN, 1977), in the light of the propositions of Peet and Hartwick's Theory of Development (2009).
