Abstract

The Anger, as a common affection to the human being, is a topic of discussion since the Antiquity. As we know, the Roman philosopher and tragedy writer Seneca wrote an entire dialogue dedicated to the discussion and to the philosophical treatment of this passion. Depending on the gender, the philosopher used to present the anger in a diferent way, therefore, in some points, he puts in a highlight the difference of the anger's reasons and its intensity in women. Medea, Phaedra, Hecuba, Andromaca, Jocasta and Antigona are some of the female mithological characters Seneca uses in his tragedies. And when those women become Seneca's characters, they start to have characteristics and attitudes that evidence the discussion about the anger that Seneca is proposing. Thus, under the perspective of Seneca's dialogue De ira, this proposal intends to reflect how the female characters, and specially those who named the plays, put into pratice some of the concepts presented on his dialogue on Anger.
