Affirmative policies at the LGBTQI population: the institutional practices in the São Paulo public universities

Abstract

The present work is part of a collaborative project between Brazilian and Spanish researchers whose objective is the mapping of institutionalized LGBTI + practices in the universities of Spain and Brazil. The objective of this study is to identify and analyze the impact of affirmative actions of public universities in São Paulo for access to and permanence in education and the fight against violence against sexual and gender diversity. As a procedure we will access the institutional bodies responsible for implementing these policies in universities. Next, we will proceed: a) to the collection and analysis of documents that describe the history, the proposal and the operation of the actions (team, location, propositions, methodologies, demands); b) semi-structured interviews with administrative and technical leaders for the actions; c) visits to institutions to learn about the actions and routines of procedures for the LGBTI + public. The analysis will be based on the principles of qualitative research and Content Analysis. Thus, we will consider the analysis of the data produced on the universities from the items: a) the consideration or not of the demands of the LGBTI + population; b) articulation with broader policies in society for the LGBTI + population; c) timeliness and scope of the discussions on accessibility and permanence of the LGBTI + population; d) intentionality and fundamental values of actions.
