Abstract

The bibliography about the body and the categories of difference is, since the 1980s, a central theme in the Social Sciences. Although in the Racial and Gender Studies the interlocution between these categories is a relevant subject, Sociology and Urban Anthropology do not concentrate much bibliography on the subject. The general objective of this project is to investigate the relationships between social markers of difference and urban conflict in the daily experience of young people identified with the urban peripheries. Theoretically, three questions, outlined here, mobilize and justify the research to be undertaken: i) the relationship between categories of difference and experience; ii) the intersectionality between categories of difference beyond the trinomial class, race, gender, which leads us to the debate about body aesthetics; iii) the everyday as a structuring of the plausible and possible in each situation, and therefore of social relations. Methodologically, we propose a study on different bodies and aesthetics as an entrance to the understanding of contemporary urban conflict. The field will be held in two different spaces for the circulation of these young people: a) adolescents who circulate through the Center for the Defense of the Rights of Children and Adolescents São Carlos and b) graduating students from Affirmative Actions and residents of urban peripheries at the Federal University of São Carlos.
